Description
Description
The Hydrofera Blue® Bacteriostatic Foam Dressing (HB6614) is a sterile, non-adhesive polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) foam dressing impregnated with Methylene Blue and Gentian Violet. These organic pigments provide broad-spectrum bacteriostatic protection, making the dressing effective against a wide range of microorganisms, including MRSA and VRE.
Sized at 6" x 6", this dressing is designed to manage wound exudate while mechanically wicking bacteria, bioburden, and endotoxins away from the wound surface. When hydrated, the foam becomes soft and highly conformable, creating a moist wound environment that supports healing while maintaining antimicrobial control.

Comparison with Competitor Products
Unlike silver-based dressings, which may be cytotoxic with prolonged use, Hydrofera Blue® utilizes organic bacteriostatic pigments that are safe for extended wear. Its unique mechanical wicking action physically removes bacteria from the wound rather than relying solely on chemical antimicrobial release.
Typical User Profile and Application Scenarios
-
Wound Care Specialists (WOCN)
-
Podiatrists
-
Vascular Surgeons
Best Practices for Use and Maintenance
-
Maintain moisture at all times; rehydrate before removal if the dressing dries out
-
Monitor color change closely—loss of blue color indicates saturation or reduced bacteriostatic effectiveness
